Training Overview
Training at The Hyalite Fire District
At The Hyalite Fire District, training is the foundation of everything we do. Our residents and neighbors count on us on their worst days, and we owe them firefighters and EMS providers who are prepared, confident, and ready to work as a team on every call. That's why vigorous training, learning, and continuous improvement are among our most important activities.
It all begins with the Recruit Academy, where new members earn their Firefighter 1, BLS CPR, and Basic Wildland certifications as well as learn the core tactics they'll use throughout their time with Hyalite. From there, members keep their skills sharp through year-round training and can pursue advanced certifications in firefighting, EMS, rescue, instruction, officer development, and wildland firefighting.
Safety: The safety of our members and the public comes first, always. Every skill we teach is built around getting everyone home.
Fundamentals: Strong basics win on the fireground. We train core skills until they're second nature, and we never ask a member to perform a task they haven't been trained to do.
Standards: We operate in a standard manner. Every member learns the same tactics the same way, so crews from any station can work together seamlessly on scene.
Mentorship: We take pride in teaching newer members the right way to do things. Experienced firefighters invest in the next generation and help every member grow.
Accountability: We are demanding of ourselves, our system, and each other. We hold one another to a high standard in training and on every call.
Trust: Trust isn't automatic. It's learned, earned, and developed over time by treating each other with respect and dignity. We build it through training together, and we work every day to earn the trust of the community we serve.
