Structural Firefighting

Structural Firefighting

Hyalite Fire District protects the homes, businesses, and people of our district with trained structural firefighting crews ready to respond around the clock. Our firefighters are trained and certified to Firefighter 1 standards and beyond. They respond to residential and commercial structure fires and are equipped to handle fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, water supply, and property protection.

Many homes in our district sit in the wildland-urban interface, where a structure fire can quickly threaten surrounding land, and a wildfire can quickly threaten homes. Our crews train for both, so we're prepared for the fires our community actually faces.

Automatic and mutual aid

Fire doesn't stop at district lines, and neither do we. Hyalite works closely with neighboring fire agencies so the closest and best-equipped resources reach every emergency quickly.

  • Automatic aid: Under automatic aid agreements, Hyalite and our neighboring districts are dispatched together to certain emergencies from the start. That puts more firefighters and apparatus on scene sooner, no matter which side of the line the call is on.
  • Mutual aid: When an incident grows beyond what one agency can handle, Hyalite sends resources to help fire departments throughout Gallatin County, and they do the same for us.

These partnerships give our residents the backing of a countywide fire service while keeping a local department close to home.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Emergency Medical Services

Medical emergencies make up most of the calls we answer, and Hyalite Fire District provides EMS care from the first moments of an emergency through transport to the hospital.

First response

When someone calls 911 for a medical emergency, Hyalite crews respond quickly from our stations and from the community to begin patient care. Our EMTs and Paramedics assess, stabilize, and treat patients on scene, often arriving within minutes when every second matters.

Ambulance transport

Hyalite provides ambulance transport, so patients stay in the care of the same trained providers from the scene to the hospital.

BLS and ALS care

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Our EMTs provide essential emergency care, including CPR, airway management, bleeding control, oxygen, splinting, and treatment for a wide range of medical and trauma emergencies.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS): Our Paramedics provide a higher level of care, including cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, advanced airway management, and emergency medications.

All of our EMS providers meet NREMT and State of Montana licensing standards and operate under the medical direction of the Gallatin County EMS Medical Director.

Wildland Firefighting

Wildland Firefighting

Hyalite Fire District protects a community where homes meet open land, forest, and grassland. In the wildland-urban interface, wildfire is one of the most serious threats we face, and our crews are trained and equipped to meet it.

Protecting our district

When a wildfire starts in or near our district, Hyalite crews respond fast to contain it while it's small and to protect homes and lives in its path. Our wildland firefighters train year-round to National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) standards. Members can advance through wildland qualifications all the way to Engine Boss.

Statewide mutual aid

Hyalite's commitment doesn't end at our district line. When large wildfires strain resources elsewhere in Montana, Hyalite sends trained crews and apparatus through statewide mutual aid to support communities across the state. Our members bring that experience home, which makes us better prepared to protect our own district when fire threatens.

Preparing our community

Every summer, the Hyalite Fire Volunteer Association hosts the Wildland BBQ, a family-friendly event focused on wildfire awareness, featuring partner agencies and outdoor activities.

If the district offers home wildfire risk assessments, defensible space guidance, or fuel reduction programs, add a line about them. Residents who live in the wildland-urban interface will be looking for that kind of help.

Rescue

Rescue Services

When people are trapped, stranded, or hurt in places that are hard to reach, Hyalite Fire District crews are trained to get them out safely.

Motor vehicle accidents

Hyalite responds to motor vehicle accidents throughout our district, from local roads to busy highways. Our crews secure the scene, care for injured patients, and use hydraulic rescue tools and vehicle extrication techniques to free people trapped in their vehicles. Every Hyalite firefighter learns vehicle extrication in the Recruit Academy, and members keep those skills sharp with weekend extrication training each year.

Low-angle rescue

When someone is hurt or stranded on a steep slope, embankment, or uneven ground, our crews use rope systems and specialized equipment for low-angle rescues. These techniques let us safely reach patients and move them to where they can get care.

Partnership with Gallatin County Search and Rescue

Our district borders some of the most popular recreation areas in the region. Hyalite works alongside Gallatin County Search and Rescue on incidents in the backcountry and difficult terrain, combining our quick local response with their specialized backcountry expertise to reach people in need as quickly and safely as possible.

Hazardous Materials Response (HazMat)

Hazardous Materials Response

From fuel spills on the highway to gas leaks and chemical releases, hazardous materials incidents can put people, property, and the environment at risk. Hyalite Fire District crews are trained to respond quickly and safely to protect our community.

Operations-level response

Hyalite firefighters are trained to the hazardous materials Operations level. When a hazmat incident occurs, our crews identify the hazard, secure the scene, keep people out of danger, and take defensive actions to contain a release and protect nearby people, property, and the environment.

Regional partnership

For incidents that call for specialized expertise and equipment, Hyalite works alongside the State of Montana Regional Hazmat Team 6. Together, we make sure every incident gets the right level of response, from first arrival through cleanup.
